About Terri Elbaum
As both college counselor and speech pathologist, I have a passion for working with students at the high school level and reducing stress levels using a step-by-step approach to help students and their families stay on track throughout high school. Students are well prepared for a smooth and easy application process by the end of junior year. My students feel well organized and have found the college process less stressful with my guidance and expertise when it comes time to preparing for college.
I have visited and met with admission officers at over 60 college campuses across the country. My extensive professional background includes both a certificate of college counseling from UCLA as well as ASHA certification. Given my specialty working with students having learning/emotional challenges (ADHD support), students having a documented learning disability may be covered under some insurance plans for cognitive-linguistic therapy and help with essay writing.
Since I have worked closely with neuropsychologists and educational psychologists, I have a deep understanding of test results and have assisted families in establishing recommendations and accommodations in the classroom. I have maintained contracts with public and private schools and have worked with a challenging number of patients where I have actively participated as an advocate in the IEP and 504 process. As my high school students are selecting their colleges, I have prepared families to become their own advocates as they are requesting accommodations on campus.
My background as both counselor and therapist is a combination that will help focus your child as we navigate the college process without the stress. At the same time, they will build a foundation of skills as we work together in choosing the best college based on their individual needs and learning style. I look forward to meeting with you and guiding you through this exciting process!
